Firm

History

Our name has stood for excellence and integrity in solving legal problems since 1914.

Just as a soaring commercial building must have a rock-solid foundation, a growing high-quality law firm builds on the strengths of its founders. Eisenhower's tradition of excellence and integrity is firmly grounded in the work of two giants of the Puget Sound legal community - Edgar Eisenhower and Reuben Carlson.

Ed Eisenhower, just a few years out of Abilene, Kansas, and newly graduated from the University of Michigan Law School, came to Tacoma in 1914. The older brother of President Dwight D. Eisenhower, Ed soon became a member of the bar and founded the firm that now bears his name.

A few years later, Tacoma native Reuben Carlson graduated from the University of Washington Law School and returned to his home town to open a practice. The Carlson firm, like the Eisenhower firm, grew steadily by doing excellent legal work for a growing and loyal client base of businesses and individuals.

In 1960 the two firms merged to form Eisenhower & Carlson. In 1988, the firm expanded to Seattle. Eisenhower has continued to grow by stressing the fundamentals: unsurpassed quality in client service, advocacy and advice. The firm owes much of its success to the legacy of Edgar Eisenhower and Reuben Carlson, whose high standards of professional ethics and hard work still guide our lawyers today.
